With November around the corner, it’s one of my favorite times of the year — Halloween!
Like Christmas (though it is quite unlike it), Halloween is a season, not a one day event. The lead-up to Halloween is almost as exciting as the trick-or-treating, bobbing for apples, and costume-wearing that comes on the 31st.
Growing up, Cabbage Night (or Mischief Night), was a rambunctious event involving toilet paper, shaving cream, flashlights, and a lot of running around. The aftermath usually involved three hair washes (to remove the shaving cream used to spike our hair up for fun) and a major clean-up of the areas “vandalized”. Oh America, teaching youth to vandalize (and clean up their actions).
While it’s not as appreciated in Japan, Tokyo at least knows how to celebrate with costumed club events, decorations in stores, and surprises in nooks and crannies.
And another thing I am terribly excited for?
